Start with the nomination basics
Use the enquiry form to send the details behind a nomination. Give the nominee’s full name, the town or suburb where they serve, and a short account of what they do for others.
If you are nominating someone from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha or Polokwane, include that in the message too. That helps our team place the nomination in the right provincial stream.
- Your name and your relationship to the nominee
- Nominee name, town and province
- A short story of the work they do
- Any useful links, photos or documents you already have
What makes a strong nomination
A useful nomination stays factual and clear. Describe the everyday help the person gives, who benefits from it, and how often they show up for that work. Concrete detail matters more than big claims.
Examples can include a teacher who stays after class to support learners, a neighbour who organises meals, or a first responder who serves a local area with steady care. Short, direct writing usually gives the judging process more to work with.
- What the person did
- Who was helped
- Where the work happened
- Why the contribution matters to the community
Consent before you send personal details
Please make sure the nominee knows about the entry and agrees to being put forward. If the person cannot give consent directly, explain the situation in the form and tell us how you are connected to them.
We also ask that you avoid sharing sensitive details that are not needed for the nomination. Health records, private family matters and other personal material should stay out unless they are essential to understand the story and the nominee has agreed.
- Confirm nominee consent where possible
- Share only relevant personal detail
- Keep the story respectful and specific
Privacy and sensitive information
Use the enquiry form carefully if your nomination includes children, carers, medical detail or other private matters. The Privacy and Consent Officer checks that the information shared is suitable for a public awards process and that it is handled with care.
If you are unsure whether something belongs in the form, leave it out and mention that extra context is available if needed. Our team works with nominations from Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State, North West and Mpumalanga.
- Do not add unrelated personal details
- Keep supporting evidence relevant
- State any privacy concerns clearly in the message
Helping the review process
The judging process looks at the strength of the story, the usefulness of the evidence and whether the nomination fits the programme’s community focus. Clear wording helps the review team understand the contribution without guessing at the facts.
If you want to update a nomination, use the same form and mention that it is an update. Add new evidence, corrected spelling or fresh context, and note anything that should replace an earlier detail.
- Proof of the person’s community role
- Dates or periods that help place the story
- Short statements from people who know the work
- Any corrections to names or contact details
